Nervous System Regulation+Parts Work+Tapping (EFT)
The S.H.I.F.T. Model™ (Somatic Holistic Internal Family Transcendence) is an integrative framework for embodied transformation that blends polyvagal-informed nervous-system practices, somatic tools such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or tapping), and parts work informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Together, these elements create a non-pathologizing, compassionate, evidence-informed pathway back to one’s inherent wholeness.
Nervous System Regulation · Parts Work · Tapping
Grounded in the paradox that true and lasting transformation emerges through radical self-acceptance, the S.H.I.F.T. Model™ helps us regulate the nervous system, unblend from protective parts, and reconnect with the calm, curious, courageous Self at the core of our being.
Learn more about the modelWe regulate the nervous system by tuning into the felt experience of the body, not only the stories we tell about it. The wisdom of the body comes through sensation, not sentences.
We account for the whole of our experience: mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, relational, socio-cultural, historical, and biological.
We understand ourselves as an internal family rather than one singular voice or identity.
None of the parts of that family are bad. They need relationship, attention, and compassion rather than exile.
The goal is not to escape our pain, but to access the deeper Self who can witness our experience with spaciousness, integrity, and intelligence — allowing new possibilities and new identities to emerge.
By combining polyvagal-informed nervous-system attunement with parts-based dialogue, the S.H.I.F.T. Model™ supports emotional release and system-wide integration. Old patterns can soften, exiled wounds can be met with compassion, and new narratives of wholeness can emerge.
The S.H.I.F.T. Model™ is not about forcing change. It is about expanding our capacity for change and creating the safety in which transformation can unfold.
Our state comes before our story. We begin by settling the body enough that our stories can soften and healing becomes more available.
Through tapping and somatic awareness, we create a felt sense of groundedness and help the body shift toward a parasympathetic state.
As safety increases, protective parts can relax and deeper truths can surface without becoming overwhelming.
Parts do not heal through pressure. They heal through presence. We meet the inner world with compassion rather than control.
We regulate, tell ourselves the truth, witness with compassion, and begin living from chosen values rather than old patterns.
Healing is a practice, not a one-time event.

Brian Hogan is a clinical therapist and EFT mentor whose work integrates nervous-system regulation, parts work, tapping, narrative identity, and embodied practice.
The S.H.I.F.T. Model™ and 5 Brain Model grew from that intersection: helping people create enough internal safety to meet difficult patterns with curiosity instead of force.
